Latest News

August 2008

  • Shortlisted tenderers held a presentation on their products recently which was assessed by staff from different business areas.  Site visits are planned in early August to gain further information on these products from interstate universities.

  • The data collected from presentations and site visits will form part of the decision making for a preferred vendor.

  • The extended evaluation process has resulted in deferring the recommendation for a decision on a preferred vendor to  Planning and Resources and Council which was originally scheduled for July.  It is expected a recommendation will now be put forward to Planning and Resources at their meeting in September.

  • Welcome to new SLIMS staff member:

Michael Kremic, Project Officer - Systems Support

Welcome

Introducing SLIMS

The endorsed option to meet our objectives is to:

Purchase and implement a new student information management system and reengineer current business processes to gain the most leverage from the new system

This option will deliver the outcomes UTAS needs, in the shortest time, with the least risk and in the most cost effective way. The outcomes identified are:

    • Improved self-service
    • Improved business process efficiency
    • Improved management information
    • Greater interoperability with other systems/services
    • Improved communication between stakeholders
    • Improved job conditions
    • Better capacity to respond quickly to legislative and regulatory drivers

SLIMS has developed in Phase 1 a broad direction for the delivery of academic administrative services to students and staff.

SLIMS has developed in Phase 2 with the key outputs being: proposals for process re-engineering; a Business Case for the project and the commencement of business requirements which will be delivered in Phase 3.

SLIMS has commenced Phase 3 which will initially focus on the tender process that will lead to the selection of a new Student Information Management System, which will be implemented over the next 2 years.

The Project Team encourages staff and students, to contact us with any questions, concerns and ideas regarding any aspect of SLIMS at Slims.Project@utas.edu.au
